The Senate Electoral Tribunal dismissed a petition questioning Senator Mary Grace Poe-Llamanzares' eligibility to hold office. The petitioner argued that as a foundling with unknown parents and former US citizen, she did not meet citizenship and residency requirements. The Tribunal found that as a foundling, Poe is presumed to be a natural-born Filipino citizen unless proven otherwise. It also found that she validly reacquired her natural-born citizenship upon taking her Oath of Allegiance to the Philippines in 2006. The Supreme Court upheld the Tribunal's decision, finding no grave abuse of discretion in its determination that Poe was a natural-born citizen eligible for office.
