Masséna Museum – Nice
To go to the Massena Museum is to offer several experiences in one.
The entrance can be made either sea or city side. Yet, soon you will learn that the city side was the noble side and that access to this neoclassical villa of the early 20th century is there. Note: the reception and the ticket office are in the pavilion on the city side. You will not be disappointed because the adjoining store contains some very nice gift ideas.
On the ground floor
Upon entry, the feeling of being transported to the 19th century grabs you. The Empire style predominates and connects the place to the story of the illustrious grandfather, Marshal Massena dubbed “the darling child of Victory” by Napoleon himself ….
The ground floor has kept the charm of yesteryear, living rooms and dining room, family portraits and Bonaparte. It is striking to walk in this palace almost expecting to see our reflection in crinoline or coat, in every mirror that faces us. The woodwork of Govone Castle is sumptuous.

Musée Masséna
Discover the Villa Masséna, an architectural jewel of Nice, where history and art meet to reveal the exceptional heritage of the Côte d'Azur in the heart of magnificent gardens.
This villa designed by the Danish architect Hans Georg Tersling, is inspired by Italians villas with its facades open to outside through galleries and loggias that offer views of the surrounding landscape. The villa's ceremonial spaces honor the two Napoleons (Ist and III). It was built in 1898, at Victor Masséna’s request, Duke of Rivoli and Prince of Essling, grandson of André Masséna, Empire Marshall and famous for his victories at the Battles of Rivoli, Marengo, Essling and Wagram under Napoleon Ist. The villa houses an exceptional set of Empire-style reception rooms, which include decorations and woodwork from the castle of Govone in Piedmont. The garden was designed by the famous landscaper Edouard André. Originally, the seaside was finished off with a promenade terrace forming a viewpoint over the landscape. The janitor’s lodge on Rue de France adopts a Parisian private mansion sty

Massena Museum in Nice
The Massena Museum in Nice or Villa Massena Museum evokes the art and history of Nice, since its annexation to France.
Musée Massena in Nice
The Massena Museum exhibits documents related to the history of Nice (after 1860, when it became French).
We discover the proclamation of the King to the inhabitants of Savoy and Nice, by King Victor-Emmanuel of Savoy, giving the County of Nice to France. Similarly, the proclamation to the inhabitants of the Arrondissement de Nice by Senator Pietri, in the name of the Emperor.
But the museum does not disdain its origins, since there is also a large portrait of Garibaldi, born in Nice in 1807, and died in Caprera in 1882. Garibaldi was one of the key men in the unification of Italy.
Many other historical documents are presented to visitors.
The Massena Museum also traces the development of Nice, through paintings or photos of Nice in the early 20th century.
We discover the boats of Nice, called "pointus", pulled on the shore, along what is today the Promenade des Anglais and the Quai des Etats-Unis. The Promenade
