Other protagonists of the Italian art scene between the two wars include Filippo de Pisis, Ubaldo Oppi, Massimo Campigli and Felice Casorati. The Mart houses masterpieces such as "Beethoven" and "Fanciulla nello studio" [Girl in a Studio], painted in the early 1920s.

1Siamo a Roma, in un assolato mattino dell’agosto 1933. Un taxi sta percorrendo via Nomentana, lunga arteria che dal centro della capitale si lancia verso nordest, e si arresta di fronte all’ingresso di villa Torlonia, residenza privata di Benito Mussolini. Dalla vettura scende, con un’aria piuttosto smarrita, un giovane neppure trentenne, sembra forestiero. Percorre con passo incerto alcuni metri lungo il solido muro che circonda la villa e giunge di fronte all’imponente cancello in ferro battuto, chiuso e inaccessibile.
