The Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) (transl. TamilStateCongress (Moopanar); abbr.TMC(M)) is an Indian regionalpolitical party in the state of Tamil Nadu. It was founded by the former member of parliament of the Republic of IndiaG. K. Moopanar on 29 March 1996 as a breakaway faction from the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee.[2]

After the death of G. K. Moopanar, the party's officials chose G. K. Vasan, the son of the founder, to lead the party in 2002. The TMC(M) was merged with Indian National Congress from 2002 to 2014. The party was again formed after a split from INC in November 2014.

It is formerly in an alliance with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and is part of the Indian political front, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in 2019.

    Back in his native Thanjavur, however, he is just ayya -- a Tamil honorific that could mean grandfather, lord, or what have you. And it is remarkable that in a fertile, agrarian area dominated by feudal landlords, there is only one ayya -- such is the pervading influence of the man.

    To understand the man, it is perhaps necessary to understand his origin -- and Moopanar is a product of Thanjavur, the headquarters of the famed Chola kings, headquarters of Tamil literature and culture and, by virtue of its idyllic situation on the banks of the River Cauvery, abundantly fertile and, in consequence, amazingly prosperous.
