Robert Francis Buckhorn Jr. (* 29. Juli1958 in Evanston, Illinois) ist ein US-amerikanischerPolitiker (Demokratische Partei). Er war vom 1. April 2011 bis zum 1. Mai 2019 Bürgermeister der Stadt Tampa im Bundesstaat Florida.

Bob Buckhorn wuchs als ältester von drei Brüdern in Falls Church im Bundesstaat Virginia auf. Er studierte Politikwissenschaften an der Pennsylvania State University in University Park, an der er im Jahr 1980 seinen Bachelorabschluss erlangte. 1987 war Buckhorn persönlicher Assistent der damaligen Bürgermeisterin von Tampa Sandra Freeman. 1995 wurde er erstmals in den Stadtrat von Tampa gewählt. Nach zwei Amtszeiten im Stadtrat zog Buckhorn sich zunächst aus der Politik zurück und wurde für die Politikberatungsagentur Dewey Square Group tätig. 2007 gründete er eine eigene Politikberatungskanzlei in Tampa.[1][2]

Buckhorn earned a B.A. in political science from Pennsylvania State University. When he served as mayor, his professional experience included working for Dewey Square Group, a public affairs firm, and as the director of governmental affairs for the Builders Association of Greater Tampa. In 2007, he founded his own public affairs firm in Tampa called Buckhorn Partners.[1]

Robert Buckhorn, father of City Council member

Robert F. Buckhorn, a former chief spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration and father of Tampa City Council member Bob Buckhorn, died Sunday at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in Patchogue. He was 68 and lived in Falls Church, Va.

The cause was a heart attack, his family said. Mr. Buckhorn had traveled to Long Island to attend a family wedding.

As the FAA's deputy administrator for public affairs, Mr. Buckhorn briefed journalists on plane crashes, the safety of the airways and other agency business. He had served as a public affairs officer with the National Transportation Safety Board for 10 years before he joined the FAA in 1984. He retired last year.

A native of Brooklyn, Mr. Buckhorn served in the Navy during World War II as an aviation radioman. He joined United Press International as a reporter in 1954, becoming aviation editor in Washington in 1962. He left the agency in 1974.

He wrote a biography of Ralph Nader, Nader, The People's Lawyer, published in 1972.
