Deborah Van Valkenburgh (born August 29, 1952) is an American actress best known for her screen debut as Mercy in the 1979 cult filmThe Warriors,[2] and her role as Jackie Rush for five seasons (1980–1985) on the television situation comedyToo Close for Comfort.[3] In 2012, she won the Best Supporting Actress in a Fantasy Film award at the PollyGrind Underground Film Festival for the film Road to Hell.[4]

Van Valkenburgh graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, with a BFA in painting and drawing.[5]

Career

She started her acting career on Broadway performing in "Hair". Van Valkenburgh also appeared in Off-Broadway plays, including Honeybee, The Tempest, Six Characters in Search of an Author, Hay Fever, When Did You last See Your Mother?, Iolanthe, It Ain't Aardvark, and Minutemen. Besides acting in many New York plays, she has acted in regional and touring company productions of Mooney's Kid Don't Cry, The Children's Hour, and A View Fr

Deborah graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. with a BFA in Painting & Drawing. However, performing has always been an integral facet of her creative repertoire. As a teen in Upstate New York she performed in coffee houses with the folk band Spur Of The Moment and during college she sang locally in a duo popularly known as The Myrtle Avenue Watermelon.

She made her professional debut on Broadway in the revival of HAIR. This was swiftly followed by Deborah�s memorable performance as "Mercy" in Walter Hill�s cult classic The Warriors then 5 years as "Jackie Rush" on the hit TV sitcom Too Close For Comfort.
