Lessons From Woody
“This was how naive I was about the pandemic,” Woody Studenmund says. “I was teaching Econometrics in the fall of 2020—in the last few years, I taught one class a semester—and I didn’t want my last class to be remote.”

Pasadena-Area’s Fallen Warriors, Their Families Honored on Gold Star Mother’s Day
“As has often been said, it’s a club. You do not want to be a member of,” Pasadena Gold Star Mother Jaynie Studenmund said.
It’s been just over six years since her son, Army Ranger Staff Sgt. Scott Studenmund, gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation while fighting in Gaza Village, Afghanistan on June 9, 2014, just days short of his 25th birthday.
Since World War I, the final Sunday in September has been set aside as Gold Star Mother’s Day, to recognize the sacrifices of the mothers who have lost children in military service.
I think it is really a beautiful tradition,” Jaynie Studenmund said. “There is a special bond amongst Gold Star Mothers and Gold Star Families.”
“The young men who we have lost are incredible people,” she said. “To decide in today’s world that a cause is bigger than themselves, that they’re willing to give their life for. It tells you a lot about our combat warriors. They’re, they’re just a breed apart.”
